The three parts of the body to
consider when discussing health are physical, chemical, and mental.
We know the importance of our physical well being. Without our
chemical well being we could not digest our food and fight illness.
However, we rarely consider our mental well being when searching for
better health. We are not talking about Alzheimer's disease or
schizophrenia. We are talking about the things we say and do each
day that hurt us, our families, and our friends. Below are some
things to consider that will help you cope with the stress and
strain of everyday life.
Life is 80:10:10
If you are a genuinely good and honest person, you will find life to
be 80:10:10. This means no matter what you do or how you act, 80% of
the people you meet will like you, 10% will think you are okay, and
10% will not like you. Even though the majority of people like us,
human nature is such that we tend to put more emphasis on the
negative 10% than we do on the positive 90%. When someone expresses
a dislike for us, we feel hurt and may try to get them to like us.
We forget the 90% who think we are great. So the next time something
negative happens, just say, "80:10:10" and forget about it. It is
not worth the worry.
Smile & Don't Worry
Do not waste time worrying about things you can not control. About
95% of all the things we worry about never happen, and the 5% that
do are never as bad as we thought they would be. In the meantime, we
spend days, weeks, months and even years worrying about things that
never happen. If you can do something to make a difference, then do
it. If you can not change the outcome, then forget about it and do
not worry. What will happen will happen, so make the changes needed,
put it out of your mind and let it pass.
And This Too Shall Pass
Think about the worst thing that has ever happened to you. Did you
live through it? Of course you did; otherwise you would not be here.
When something terrible is happening, we think life is over and we
will never be the same again. Later, when we look back, we realize
it was not as bad as we thought. Then we get to the point when we
rarely think about it and life is back to normal. You have never
been in a situation that you have not lived through. When things
seem bad, just remember, And This Too Shall Pass!
Only Compare You With You
We have a tendency to compare ourselves with other people, which is
not a healthy thing to do. Everyone has different talents and
capabilities. The only person you should compare yourself with is
you. Base your improvements on your history. Realize that no two
people are able to accomplish the same amount of work in the same
amount of time. The important thing is that you do the best you can
do at everything you do. If you are doing your best, and someone
else is able to achieve more than you, that is okay. Not everyone
can be a genius, a world class athlete, or a famous artist, but you
can be just like them if you are doing your best and taking pride in
what you do.
Don't Beat Yourself Up
Would you intentionally hit yourself with a hammer? Of course not;
it would hurt. We would never do anything to physically hurt
ourselves. Yet we do it mentally all the time. We tend to put
ourselves down by saying, "I'm stupid," "I can't do anything right,"
"Nobody likes me," and so on. We mentally abuse ourselves so much
that we eventually start to believe it. Then by doing this we set
ourselves up to fail before we begin. In essence, you become your
worst enemy. Stop putting yourself down. Become your own best
friend. If you do not have confidence and believe in yourself,
neither will anyone else. Remember, you are what you think you are.
If you think negatively about yourself, then that is what you will
become. If you think positively about yourself, then you will be
great. You are your own destiny. Take control of your life and you
will fulfill your dreams.
Holding A Grudge Is Not Healthy
Did you know that many times when you are mad at someone, they do
not even know you are mad? We spend lots of time being angry,
hateful or bitter and no one knows it but ourselves. In the
meantime, the person we are upset with is going on with life
completely unaware of our hostility. The only person you are hurting
with negative thoughts is you. If you perceive someone has done you
wrong, talk to them about it. They probably do not even know they
upset you. Get it out of your system and let it go. Do not be a
harbor for negativity. Holding a grudge only hurts you.
What Goes Around Comes Around
We have heard the expression, 'what goes around comes around', but
what does it mean? It means you are the totality of your thoughts
and actions. If you are constantly negative, bitter, hateful, and
unfriendly, that is how your world will be. You have a choice to see
things positively or negatively. You are in control of your world.
If you want to live in a world of happiness and joy, you can. It is
up to you. The Bible says you will reap what you sow. Sow the seeds
of happiness. Make your world a better place, and it will soon make
a difference in the world around you.
We See Things As We Are
Have you noticed that when several people are exposed to the same
situation, they will each have their own interpretation of the
events that took place? That is because we see things as we are, not
as they are. You are the accumulation of your life experiences. We
make decisions based on what we have experienced in the past. If we
feel we have been taken advantage of in the past, then we begin to
think everything is a scam, If you think negatively, then all you
will see is negative. You are what you think you are, so be positive
and look for the good in everything. Before you look at the world
around you, look at yourself. Remember: We see things as we are, not
as they are.
Believe In A Higher Being
It is important to believe in a higher being. Having a strong
spiritual belief is very important. It can be very relaxing as well
as reassuring. A wise man once said, "An honest man's pillow is his
peace of mind." Having a clear conscience is very important. Look
for ways to clear your mind. Let go of the should have, would have,
and could have attitudes. Do not look back; keep looking ahead. Get
in touch with your spirituality and find a place you can call home.
In Summary
Having a positive mental attitude is very important. Thinking that
someone else has it made and your life is miserable only keeps you
down. Everyone has problems and is hurting inside. People that we
think have it made may be hurting more than we imagine. Everyone
hurts for something, so why not heal someone with sensitivity? If
you say you are depressed, then you will be. Lift your head and
shoulders, smile, and look for the good in everything. You will find
your life will soon take on new meaning. |
