Low Back
Pain
A new
study finds that low back pain care initiated with a
doctor of chiropractic (DC) saves 40% on health care costs
the American Chiropractic Association(ACA) announced
today. The study, featuring data from 85,000 Blue Cross
Blue Shield beneficiaries, concludes that insurance
companies that restrict access to chiropractors for low
back pain treatment may inadvertently pay more for care
than they would if they removed such restrictions.
Low back
pain is a significant public health problem. Up to 85
percent of Americans have back pain at some point in their
lives. In addition to its negative effects on employee
productivity, back pain treatment accounts for about $50
billion annually in health care costs—making it one of the
top 10 most costly conditions treated in the United
States.
The
study looked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee’s
intermediate and large group fully insured population over
a two-year span. The insured study population had open
access to MDs and DCs through self-referral, and there
were no limits applied to the number of MD/DC visits
allowed and no differences in co-pays.
Results
show that paid costs for episodes of care initiated by a
DC were almost 40 percent less. After risk-adjusting each
patient’s costs, researchers still found significant
savings in the chiropractic group. They estimated that
allowing DC-initiated episodes of care would have led to
an annual cost savings of $2.3 million for Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Tennessee.
“As
doctors of chiropractic, we know firsthand that our care
often helps patients avoid or reduce more costly
interventions such as drugs and surgery. This study
supports what we see in our practices every day,” said ACA
President Rick McMichael, DC. “It also demonstrates the
value of chiropractic care at a critical time, when our
nation is attempting to reform its health care system and
contain runaway costs.”

In my work on the
Dr. Phil Show, the entire crew utilizes Chiropractic care. We
have directly seen its positive effects on our own health and well
being. But more so, we have keenly observed those guests on the
show in our "Biggest Loser" segments that do not use Chiropractic
care. The difference in overall health is markedly different.
It is my sincerest
suggestion to you that the greatest gift you can give yourself,
and those of whom you love, as well as those that love you, is the
gift of health and well being. Your Chiropractor is an expert in
these areas. Please ask for suggestions to make your life and the
life of your loved ones the very best it can be.
A child is named
Jonathan and he was born in Average Town, USA. His parents love him
as if he was the only child in the world. They want him to grow up
to be an upstanding citizen who is healthy and willing to change
things to his and others advantage. They don’t expect that he will
be hyperactive, or have ADHD as he seems quite normal at birth. How
did Jonathan change?
When we look at his
diet we find out that he craved sweets of all kind, sugar on his
cereal, candy bars, coke, chocolate, ice cream, cake and candy.
Today this is a normal diet for a young child. Although it is a form
of addiction that turns a child insane as if he were on some sort of
medical prescription. But in actual fact this is a diet that causes
hypertension, anxiety, fits, and dramatizations, all of which make
him appear abnormal.
So his parents in
desperation take him to a professional who confirms by diagnosis
that he is bi-polar. So, poor Jonathan is drugged. Or his parents
have the option to spend some time in the health food store finding
substitutes for his addictive foods, like carob instead of
chocolate, sugarless candies, perhaps even good tasting chewable
multivitamins or natural drinks like almond milk. After awhile
without sugar and caffeine he will probably turn into a normal boy,
with normal dreams and goals.
Vaccination and Vitamin D
Vaccination rates
among children insured by commercial health insurance plans have
dropped four percent between 2008 and 2009, says a new report by the
National Committee for Quality Assurance. The really interesting
thing about this trend is that parents are consciously choosing to
protect their children from vaccines. As it turns out, the people
are smarter than the vaccine industry thinks, and as they're
learning the truth about seasonal flu vaccines, they're making
informed, intelligent decisions to protect their children.
The scientific fact
the flu industry conveniently avoids talking about is that vitamin D
offers far better protection against flu infections, and it's
cheaper, safer and easier to take! Children will gladly chew vitamin
D tablets if it means avoiding a jab with a sharp needle. Vitamin D,
you see, activates the immune response to flu infections. Virtually
everyone who suffers from the flu in the winter is vitamin D
deficient. That's why flu season is the winter as fewer people get
the suns exposure. The sun is also a major source of vitamin D! As
such that's when everybody is most deficient in vitamin D!

Posture
Posture
ranks right up at the top of the list when you are talking
about good health. It is as important as eating right,
exercising, getting proper rest and avoiding potentially
harmful substances like alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. Good
posture is a way of doing things with more energy, less
stress and fatigue. Without good posture, you cannot really
be physically fit. Without good posture, you can actually
damage your spine every time you exercise.
To
illustrate this, think about carrying a briefcase. If you
had to carry a briefcase with your arms outstretched in
front of you, it would not take long before the muscles of
your shoulders would be completely exhausted. This is
because carrying the briefcase far away from your center of
balance places undue stress on your shoulder muscles. If you
held the same briefcase down at your side, your muscles
would not fatigue as quickly, because the briefcase is
closer to your center of balance and therefore the weight is
supported by the bones of the skeleton, rather than the
muscles.
Correcting
bad posture and the physical problems that result can be
accomplished in two ways. The first is by eliminating as
much "bad" stress from your body as possible. Bad stress
includes all the factors, habits, or stressors that cause
your body to deviate from your structural center. Bad stress
can result from a poorly adjusted chair at school. An
improperly adjusted backpack, or even from carrying too much
weight around in a heavy backpack.
The second
is by applying "good" stress on the body in an effort to
move your posture back toward your center of balance. This
is accomplished through a series of exercises, stretches,
adjustments, and changes to your physical environment, all
designed to help correct your posture. Getting your body
back to its center of balance by improving your posture is
critically important to improving how you feel.
